ANCIENT OLYMPIA – KALAVRYTA – MOUNTANEOUS KORINTHIA-MYCENAE

Explore some of the most beautiful parts of the northern part of Peloponesse and at the same time visit two of the most important monuments of Ancient Greek civilisation; the graves of Mycenae and the place where the Olympic Games took place for the first time in history, Olympia. Experience the excitement of driving in a number of different terrains, through amazing forests and over rivers and creeks.
During winter months route from Kalavryta to Trikala Korinthias may be covered with snow, adding another driving experience to this activity.
 
Day 1
Arrival from country of origin, check in after 14:00 Dinner at hotel.

Day 2 approx. 300 km
Vehicle pick, briefing on equipment and morning departure for Ancient Olympia. Visit archaeological site and museum. Afternoon free. Dinner at hotel.

Day 3 approx. 80 km
Leave hotel at 10.00 heading towards Foloi forest for a number of graded difficulty off road routes. The forest covers and area of 21.000 acres and it is famous for the long trunk oak trees. According to the Greek Mythology it was the residence of the Centaurs. The last one, named Folos gave his name to the forest. Break for light snack and coffee before we face the challenging route of driving upstream Sellientas river, encountering a difficult exit from the river bed. Alternative route is available in case level of water or weather conditions dictate so. Coffee break at the picterisque village of Foloi before we return to Olympia. Dinner at hotel.

Day 4 approx. 110 km

Depart at 09.00, heading for the lake of Ladonas via asphalt road stopping by for coffee at the square of the village of Tropaia. A number of dirt roads will take us to the area by Ladonas river. Those who wish not to do rafting will discover a number of new routes in the greater area. Light snack and coffee before we leave for Kalavryta where we will night stop in a traditional guesthouse near the ski resort. Dinner at guesthouse.

Day 5 approx. 70 km
Morning departure for lake Tsivlou through fir tree forests. Driving along and across the river bed of Krathis river we will reach the village of Zarouchla, heading for Dasios lake to stop for a light snack and coffee by its shore. We continue up Ziria mountain through a number of dirt roads to reach the village of Trikala Korinthias. Night stop and dinner in a traditional hotel.

Day 6 approx. 220 kmEarly morning departure for ancient Mycenae for a guided tour of the archaeological site. Return to Athens. Night stop and dinner at hotel. End of activity.

IMPORTANT NOTE
Our aim is to complete the activity as described above but our priority is safety.
Excessive rain or snow fall, deeper than expected river beds, damaged terrain, rapidly worsening weather or any other conditions which might endanger the activity will be dealt with on the spot and alternative routes will be chosen. Frequent visits to the area guarantee vast flexibility in completing the activity irrespective of any unforeseen factors.
